  • Diocesan Deputy Hot Buttons
    DIOCESAN DEPUTY HOT BUTTONS
    February, 2010
The purpose of publishing these Hot Buttons is to help leaders of our Order to keep focused on issues, events and projects that I consider currently important and need the prioritized attention of all members. Some of the Hot Buttons may continue to be listed for several months. I would like for my Assistants, District Deputies and Grand Knights to address these Hot Buttons at your meetings. I realize that all of our leaders also have Hot Buttons of their own. We all should be headed in the same direction and Hot Buttons listed here should be pretty close to yours.
    REMEMBER
If you believe you can, you probably can. If you believe you cannot, you surely will not. Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad!!
HOT BUTTONS FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY
    1. Support Seminarian Council and each Seminarian. Brother Bill Wittman advises that all seminarians are now financially supported. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. Be sure that your Council's financial support is sent directly to your seminarian. If you send it to the Seminary, it most likely will be deposited in the Seminary's general fund and not given to your supported seminarian.
    2. Pray to defeat FOCA legislation. Have you participated in at least one pro life activity this fraternal year? We need to pray a lot harder in asking God's favor to defeat pro-choice issues.
    3. Pay close attention to State Charity Goals and also Recruiting new members. Brother Richard
Moken reports 24 Round Tables now confirmed. Goal is 26. That's easy. We should have 50!!!!
    4. Think "outside the box" and find new and more ways to carry out the vision held by our Founder, Father Michael J. McGivney. Avoid taking a position that says "We tried that before and it did not work" (usually stated by well intentioned members who find it difficult to accept new ideas or new approaches to old ideas).
    5. 83.64%% of State Charity Goal is met as of 1 February. 52 Councils at 100%. Districts 32, 36, 37 and 41 at 100%. TERRIFIC!!!
    6. Support Bishop Flanagan/KC/Habitat Golf Tourney and "One Man Standing" fund raisers. Golf Tournament on 12 April at the Hyatt. "One Man Standing" to be hosted by Council 4140 on June 25th. OMS tickets for $100 entitle purchaser to two steak dinners, refreshments during the evening and 3 prizes for $500, $1000 and $5000. These go to last 3 holders standing as ticket numbers are announced.
    6. Brother John Godoy is challenged to re-activate a minimum of 3 Councils this fraternal year.
San Juan de los Lagos to be RE-ACTIVATED this month. He will need a lot of help particularly from DD's in whose districts dormant councils are located. San Gabriel Council expected to be ACTIVATED this month. ARE THERE NEW COUNCILS TO ACTIVATE?? TELL Richard Moken.
    7. Mid Year Conference was well attended. Thanks to GK Luis Martinez and all of Council 4298 who helped this to be a very successful conference.
    8. Reserve the date of 21 February for the Annual Archdiocesan Clergy Recognition Dinner. It will be hosted by Council 4140 on Camp Bullis Road. Bring gifts for Bingo and for door prizes. PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO HELP. Spouses love this activity.
    9. BASKETBALL FREE THROW: Diocesan competition at St PJ's Childrens Home on 20 February. State Championship at Antonian Prep on 6 March. Encourage healthy competition at all levels. HELP NEEDED.
    10. St PJ Support: Thanks to 30 Knights, one spouse and two children representing 14 Councils who laid about 3500 square feet of vinyl tile on 3 weekend days. 172 hours of labor, materials and tools valued at $7000 donated. Added brightness to dining area. Much appreciated by Staff. We even witnessed the curiosity of interested children.
    11. Wheel Chair goal is to have every Council in Texas purchase one chair for $150. To date 31 Councils, 8 individuals and 1 Assembly throughout Texas have done so. Total donations add up to $16, 505. Make check payable to: American Wheel Chair Mission and mail to Sam Szalwinski. Address is:1914 Margate San Antonio, Texas 78232. I will record the transaction and forward the contribution. The diocese of Corpus Christi is currently conducting a Diocesan Wide wheel chair fund raiser. Wheel Chairs make for mobility of immobile people. Please pray for success. A "Demo" chair is available for parish wide fund raisers that KC members may wish to undertake. A new DVD showing the October 2009 distribution in Nuevo Laredo is also available. Newly designed lapel pins are also available. Just call me at 210-496-6310.
    12. Although we are in the middle of a Fraternal Year, we have just begun a new Calendar Year. How many of us have resolved to do better to improve our lives, our health, and our relationships, etc? I encourage each of you to resolve to see the face of Jesus in all whom you meet. Listen to what they have to say. Resolve to do well in all undertakings, especially those that involve your family.
    COMMUNICATE, COOPERATE AND COORDINATE
